It really depends. I have not benchmarked things in a while, so the 
differences might have increased or decreased. Also the benchmarks I 
made were fairly synthetic. Also note that this difference can vary 
greatly depending on the driver you use.

anyways the performance differences in my opinion are not the main 
reason i would make the switch. there was just alot of FUD thrown at 
MDB2 and PEAR abstraction layers in general. this was why i actually 
started to work on highlighting that MDB2 is atleast as fast as DB and 
is on par with ADODB as well.
